We enjoy designing and developing websites. It’s an opportunity to let our creativity loose. And it’s extremely gratifying to give clients an online home that reflects who they are and what they do.

When Mark Peterson, CEO of Western Mortgage Brokers, contacted us, he was seeking public relations services to help promote his upcoming appearance on the hit TV show “Shark Tank.” The show provided Mark the opportunity to showcase his invention, the Gold Rush Nugget Bucket, in front of well-known investors and millions of people watching the show around the world.

When Mark’s episode aired and sales of the Gold Rush Nugget Bucket began to climb, he seized an opportunity to redo the Western Mortgage Brokers website. So, we set to work.

The elements
Your website’s homepage is like your business’ front door—when potential clients visit your website, you have about 30 seconds to make a good first impression. And first impressions really do matter.

So, we sat down with Mark and his staff and discussed the key things they want a person stepping through their front door to know immediately.

“If you’re buying a home or refinancing, you’re in the right place. We’re a broker, not a bank, and there are big benefits in that for our clients,” is what they told us.

We began to develop the content for the website, while focusing on organization and structure. The site would be clean and professional, user-friendly and built around the company’s target audience and market.

Defining the design
As Steve Jobs once said, “Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”

The design must not only be pleasing, but also functional. It must build upon a brand while providing clear and concise information in an intuitive way.

When it came to the design of the Western Mortgage Brokers site, Mark set us free, giving us very little instruction. He was curious to see what we would come up with on our own.

Our art director, Cres, picked a color palette that was visually pleasing and represented the “Northwest vibe” that the client’s staff suggested. He incorporated a large photo slideshow for the home page that features real customer stories and links to client testimonials singing their praises, front and center.

We paid extra attention to the navigation, because we knew that those visiting the site would want specific information. If they have to search for it, they wouldn’t stick around long.

Each page serves a clear purpose, from why you should choose Western Mortgage Brokers and the products they offer to an explanation of the home buying process and how to get started.

Cres worked closely with our web director, Kurt, to design and develop the site responsively, so that it can be accessed from multiple devices. Kurt also ensured that it was search engine optimized.

Voila! Western Mortgage Brokers’ new home was in place.

Websites can grow and adapt as your business changes and grows. Mark has since created a video with a personal message to prospective clients. That video now lives on the homepage—check out the website. And, if you’re in the market to buy a home or refinance, step through the front door and learn more.
