Tri Training: Electrolytes — Turell Group

People told me I would need to drink electrolytes when I started to get to the endurance level of training. To be honest, I didn’t believe them. I thought, “Come on. That’s just how they sell sports drinks, right? Plus, who wants to drink Gatorade all the time?”

Oh, how I was wrong.

Even though I didn’t believe in them, I dutifully drank my electrolytes each time I worked out. Until one day, I forgot. Missing just one gave me painful calf cramps. Same thing happened one more time: forgot electrolytes; got calf cramps. Amazingly, as soon as I drank some, the cramps went away.

So, now I’m a believer. I drink at least one electrolyte drink during each workout to stave off muscle cramps.

Because I didn’t want to put a load of sugar and artificial flavor in my body every day, I asked around for options better than Gatorade or Powerade. Several people suggested Nuun. Nuun comes in tablets that dissolve in water. They taste better than Gatorade and have no sugar. I’m sold.

Note to self: When experienced people tell me I should do something, I should listen.
