I am proud of and grateful for the TG team. They are all good people who work hard for our clients. But, let’s face it; sometimes the pressures of work (and family) make it seem impossible to make healthy choices. Continue Reading…
Tri Training: The big day and final thoughts
It’s been two weeks since the big day — my participation in the Pacific Crest Olympic Triathlon. I’ve sat down to write this final post several times and have been unable to put into words what I felt. Maybe writing this makes it too final. Maybe it’s too emotional. Maybe. But here goes.
The weekend started with a potluck and team meeting. The coaches specifically acknowledge each team member, recognizing his or her accomplishments. For me, Coach Mike recognized my new “I think I can” attitude. He’s right. It wasn’t until about two months ago that I really thought I would be able to accomplish the feat. This new level of confidence and courage will help me with anything I try to achieve going forward. Continue Reading…
Tri Training: Waiting on MRI results
Over the last month, my training workouts for the Pacific Crest Olympic Triathlon have been intense. My team meets on Saturdays at Dorena Lake to do full run-throughs.
The first time we did it, I literally thought I was going to fall to the ground from exhaustion. I actually contemplated curling up in a ball right there on the path. I’ve never really been that exhausted in my life. But what it taught me is I can do it! I’ve done the full race distance a few times now. That feels good. Continue Reading…
Tri Training: Win a raffle package!
We have some fantastic raffle packages with proceeds benefiting Oregon Cancer Foundation. With limited entries, you have a great chance of winning. At present, we have no more than 15 entries for any one package. I won’t list them all, because you can review at your leisure, but let me give you some highlights:
• If you have a baby or know someone who does, don’t miss this package that offers handmade moccasins and a family photo shoot. Continue Reading…
Tri Training: Oregon Cancer Foundation
Many of my tri teammates have been writing fundraising letters and holding events since February. I’ve been so focused on training, I just got started. I have a lot of ground to make up. If you are not on my Turell Group email list and want to be, leave a comment here, and you will receive our emails listing ways to support the cause, including an invitation to a mid-May fundraising party.
The fundraising dollars from this event will support a local cancer foundation that I’m a board member of — the Oregon Cancer Foundation. The foundation empowers, strengthens and sustains those impacted by cancer in our community through education, support and financial assistance. Continue Reading…
Tri Training: Help me raise $5,000
I am tackling a feat I never thought possible — an Olympic-distance triathlon. Despite my mental gremlins and aching muscles that tell me I can’t, your encouragement tells me I can.
Training for a triathlon is scary. Cancer is scarier.
Running is hard. Fighting cancer is harder.
I never thought I could do this. Neither did they. Continue Reading…
Tri Training: RunKeeper
Some people have fancy fuel bands or watches that track stats. I have the RunKeeper app. And I love it! There’s something motivating about logging my activities and seeing them all add up. Continue Reading…
Tri Training: Thankful
I am now halfway through my triathlon training. The main event takes place in Sunriver on June 29, at the Pacific Crest Sports Festival. It’s easy to focus on the challenges I need to face before that date, but I’d like to focus instead on how far I’ve come and what I’m thankful for. Continue Reading…
Tri Training: Electrolytes
People told me I would need to drink electrolytes when I started to get to the endurance level of training. To be honest, I didn’t believe them. I thought, “Come on. That’s just how they sell sports drinks, right? Plus, who wants to drink Gatorade all the time?” Continue Reading…
